St. Nicholas' Church

During our trip to Berlin, Mackenzie and I decided to spend the day and take a trip to Potsdam. Not Potsdam New York, the town Clarkson University is located in, but Potsdam Germany, a city about 30 minutes outside of Berlin by train.

We woke up and headed to Potsdam Germany. We both expected a small countryside village, but was pleasantly surprised to find a city full of history, monuments, and old buildings. Just outside of Potsdam Germany is also home to filming locations for part of the Hunger Games Series, two of the Bourne film series, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Bridge of Spies, and many more.

We went and explored the town before heading to Sanssouci Park, a huge park and home to Sanssouci, the summer palace of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia and often referred to as the German rival of Versailles. The property had a massive palace atop a hill, layers upon layers of terraces filled with gardens, and water fountains everywhere.

Church of Peace

After viewing the palace from the outside, we walked around grounds through well-groomed trails, gardens and visited a few of the many buildings on the property, including a Chinese House, an old windmill, and my favorite, the Church of Peace. The church was open air building with beautiful interior courtyards, stunning picturesque halls with columns, and almost no one around. This church was set in a lovely section of the park and placed next to a small pound casting a mirror-like reflection of this beautiful building.

We then headed back to Berlin, to pack our bags and get some sleep before heading back to Konstanz Germany.
