My second day in Zermatt once again started at 7 am with morning breakfast with an amazing view of the Matterhorn Mountain. I then got my ski gear on, headed to the lifts and hit the slopes. After taking in the scenary and doing a few runs I headed to the top of Klein Matterhorn where I took an elevator down into the glacer itself. Tunnels dug under the glacier show the true beauty that nature provides. Shining lights, decorative ice sculptures and even an ice slide lay inside this ancient piece of ice.
Next I headed over the Swiss border and skied approximately 9 miles to the Italian town of Singlin where it took me almost an hour, and 6 lifts to return back the Swiss border. I then skied down to Cervina and ate lunch at a mid mountain lodge before heading back to Switzerland and skiing 8 miles back down to another gondola to transfer me to another section of the mountain.
After heading to another section of the mountain I took the famous Zermatt Gornergrat Train, a mountain rack railway, the 10th highest in the world by elevation, bringing you to an elevation of 10,138 feet above sea level. After enjoying the ride up the mountain and snapping some photos at the top, I skied back down to the town of Zermatt, all while the beautiful sight of the Matterhorn Mountain.
After returning my equipment I raced as fast as I could to get to an overlook of the town of Zermatt to hopefully catch the sun setting behind the Matterhorn to get the photo I have been hoping to get. While not getting to the exact location I wanted, I was able to get a photo of sun rays with the setting sun behind the Matterhorn. Next, I continued my hike to the town overlook where I spent about an hour and a half awaiting the town lights to turn on. After awaiting in the cold with a fellow photographer I met, I got the photo I had hoped to get, the town lights down in the valley below and the Matterhorn in the distance.
The following morning I packed my gear and headed to the train station, where I snapped a few photos of the town, a church and one of the large hotels downtown. I then boarded the train back to Konstanz where I got ready to plan my next adventure.
